I got to understand what the Gospel is, around 9 years ago. I had just left high school and was then a university student and in the process of defining my purpose. I knew I was going to preach the Gospel to the utter ends of the earth but I wanted to be as specific and clear as possible. So, this particular night, as I was studying for my CPAs, I came across Isaiah 61 (not in a CPA book, of course😂😂😂). I remember being so excited because I not only got my specific purpose on earth but I immediately also understood the definition of the Gospel. For some reason, I had read that verse before but that day was different. My life was changed. I then connected it to Luke 4:18. Remember when Jesus went to the synagogue and a scroll was handed to Him, He read Isaiah 61 to the congregation because that was what He came to do on this earth.

1. The Gospel is Christ and Him Crucified

In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul wrote to the church at Corinth and he tells them, “Now, brothers and sisters, I want you to remember the Gospel I preached to you. You received that Good News message, and you continue to base your life on it. That Good News, the message you heard from me, is God’s way to save you. But you must continue believing it. If you don’t, you believed for nothing. I gave you the Gospel that I received. I told you the most important truths: that Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say; that he was buried and was raised to life on the third day, as the Scriptures say;  and that he appeared to Peter and then to the twelve apostles.

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:2 KJV

Beloved, the Gospel is who Jesus Christ is and what He did on the cross so that we can live a victorious life, manifesting God here on earth in human form. That is why it is dangerous to live a life where you don’t deliberately create time to study and meditate on the Word because then, how will you know who Jesus is and what He did on the cross for you?

Jesus is our Lord and Saviour. He was not a martyr. He did not die for what He believed in. No! He went to the cross willingly and gave His life willingly so that the Father’s will can be done. He did it so that it would be possible for a man to fellowship with the Father just like it was before in the garden of Eden. This is the Gospel! That we are sons and daughters of the Most High. That we are righteous by faith in Christ Jesus. The religious mind cannot process this. It is too deep. For them, it is more comfortable to keep repenting for the sins they know and don’t know LoL but when you really understand who Jesus is and the finished works of Christ at the cross then you will know that there is no need to keep repenting. Jesus dealt with the sin issue at the cross and we obtained the nature of God, i.e. the nature of righteousness by faith. Therefore, it is correct to say that we are as righteous as God is. We now dwell in the light, where no man or the devil can approach (1 Timothy 6:16) Even the devil can no longer go to the presence of God to accuse a believer. That changed after Christ died for you. That is the Gospel; who Jesus is and the impact of the finished works of Christ on a believer.

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]. John 10:10 Amplified Bible

Beloved, Christ went to the cross in your name, He died in your name and rose again on the 3rd day in your name so that you can live a life free of sickness, curses, sin, failures e.t.c which are as a result of the nature of sin that man got at the garden of eden. Zoe i.e. eternal life which is the life of God is now greatly at work in you. This life is not subject to sin or sickness, in fact, it cannot co-exist with all that. And that is why Paul says, ‘The only thing that is important, the only thing that I want you guys to understand is who Jesus is and what He did at the cross.” I love how the Message version puts it;

You’ll remember, friends, that when I first came to you to let you in on God’s master stroke, I didn’t try to impress you with polished speeches and the latest philosophy. I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who he is; then Jesus and what he did—Jesus crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:2 The MESSAGE version

2. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek Romans 1:16 KJV

Beloved, the Gospel is not just a religious message. It is also not void of power. The Gospel is the power of God through which men are saved! The only way that men can be saved is through the Gospel and that is why we cannot afford to be ashamed of the Gospel. Think about it. For any hopeless person that you know, the Gospel is what they need, to turn their life around so that they can live a meaningful life on this earth. Therefore, we can agree that not sharing this Gospel is the height of selfishness.

Just a small assignment; if there is any person you have been praying for to change and they haven’t, go and share the Gospel with them today. I promise you that the Lord who has saved them will sustain them. They will become new in all ways. This Gospel works. I have witnessed it. It works ALWAYS!

Preach the Gospel to every creature

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15-16 KJV

Preach the Gospel to every creature; even to the living and non-living objects because they have the ability to respond to the Word of God. That is why when we lay hands on people, say somebody who has cancer, the cancerous cells respond to the Word of God and they die at that Word and the person becomes free and whole again. Every living and non-living thing has a sound code that responds to God’s Word. Before you go for prayers and start complaining about that stagnant or failing project, preach the Gospel to it.

For example, the Bible says that whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world. Note that it is ‘whatsoever’ so since you are born of God, your ideas and strategies are also born of God. If they start to misbehave, preach the Gospel to them. Tell them that they can only be successful because they have overcome the systems of this world. Also, encourage yourself that all things are working together for your good. The Word of God is perfect and it works – always!

 3. The Gospel according to Isaiah 61 and Luke 4:18

Jesus had come to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read.  The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written;

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah), Because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy), to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the favor of God abound greatly].”
Luke 4:16-19 Amplified Bible

Beloved, the Gospel is the Good News. The Gospel is freedom, healing, deliverance and preservation to the broken hearted, oppressed, sick and the poor. As we have already seen up there, the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation so, as you declare the Gospel to people, they will certainly receive all they need for this life.

Let’s look at the Gospel being Good News;

4. The Gospel is the Good News

The Gospel is free, but it is not cheap. The Gospel is the Good News about Jesus Christ.

A few years ago, when the free education program was announced by the Kenyan Government, parents were very happy because the burden of school fees had been removed. So, they did not need to do anything in order for this program to work, the announcement came with the ability to waive the school fees for the primary school education. All the parents had to do is to avail their children to the various learning institutions.

Brothers and sisters, the Gospel is Good News! Jesus Christ died on the cross in your name so that you may live your life in victory! So, to the sick, the Good News is, “Hey brother, you do not have to be sick anymore! By the stripes of Christ, you were healed. Do what you could not do before. Walk! Rejoice! Good News!” To the oppressed, the Good News is that you don’t have to live in pain anymore! You are free! Receive freedom! Now, the sick person does not need to pray or fast in order to receive this healing! All he/she needs to do is to receive the healing by faith and leap in joy! That message comes with faith. And as he believes, his ankles will receive strength and he will leap and run! The Gospel is Good News! Jesus Christ became poverty, sin, sickness, a curse because He hung on a tree (Gal 3:13) so that you can walk in prosperity, divine health, blessing, and righteousness by faith! To the cursed, the good news is that your lineage is no longer your earthly ancestors. You are Abraham’s seed! The generational curses are now null and void! Receive freedom! Good News!

How do you receive Christ after hearing the Good News/ Gospel?

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Romans 10:9-10 NIV

Salvation has 2 aspects – Believing and Confessing the Lordship of Christ. You MUST believe and DECLARE with your mouth out loud that Jesus is Lord. You believe with your heart but it is through voicing that belief with your mouth, that you are saved!

Please note that some versions use ‘confession’ instead of declaring but that has nothing to do with confession of sins. Instead, it is declaring your belief out aloud.

If you have not received Christ, pray this prayer out aloud;

Oh Lord God, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ. Your Word says, “
that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” I believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. I believe Jesus died for me and that he was buried and raised from the dead. Right now, I confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord of my life. I receive by faith eternal life into my spirit. Thank you lord for saving my soul. I now have Christ dwelling in me. I am saved, I am born again, I am a new creation. Hallelujah!

Congratulations! You’re now a child of God! If you said that prayer, please let me know by sending an email to info@nellytuluba.com God bless you!

And as many as received him, to them He gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12

 I love you all and I am always praying with you!

With love,
